It's a wrap!

This year's  Oregon Early Learning Conference was a resounding success, due entirely to the dedication and enthusiasm of our attendees and presenters. The event was held April 18-19, 2023, at the Embassy Suites Conference Center at the Portland Airport. See you at the next conference!

Workshop by keynoter Dr. Rosemarie Allen

Tuesday, April 18, 2023, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Talking to Children About Race: Children are never too young to discuss race and racism, and ongoing dialogue is crucial to their learning and understanding of racial equity. This session will provide strategies and the language necessary to have age-appropriate conversations about race with young children. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of implicit bias and will gain the language necessary to begin and continue ongoing dialogues about race and racism with children.

Two keynote speakers

PHILLIP STRAIN, PH.D., will deliver the morning keynote, titled “The State of Early Childhood Services:  It's Not All About Social Development, But Always About Social Development.” He is the James C. Kennedy Endowed Chair in Urban Education at the Morgridge  College of Education and Director of the Positive Early Learning  Experiences Center at the University of Denver.

DR. ROSEMARIE ALLEN will address participants during lunch with a keynote titled “Challenging Behavior is Not So Challenging When You Have the Right Tools.” She is  an associate professor in the School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She also serves as the President and CEO for the Institute for Racial Equity & Excellence.

The goal of our conference is to serve PreK-2 programs in Oregon with presentations on cutting-edge research and best practices from educators throughout the state. Join teachers, coordinators, principals and other early learning professionals who have a common interest in developing effective early learning programs, inclusive curriculum, learning  environments,and teaching strategies .
